BTM 2019 brings buyers and providers together to create high value-added chains

• 450 business meetings expected to take place in one day
• Registration for the business matchmaking forum closes August 19

The 2019 Buyers Trade Mission (BTM), provides small and mid-sized businesses the opportunity to participate in value added chains through the business matchmaking forum organized by the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER). The forum seeks to enrich the Costa Rican export offer by fostering relationships between export and/or distribution companies and local providers, resulting in high value added chains.

This year, at least 450 business meetings will take place between 30 buyers and 125 providers from the specialized, medical and services industries as well as the agricultural sector.

“The National Development Plans establishes, as part of their goals, that the foreign trade sector must work towards boosting productions chains because this type of indirect export is a driving force and is a means to increase the value our export offer,” said Dyalá Jimenez, Minister of Foreign Trade. “The BTM has become an important space to carry out business and increase exports and this year’s emphasis on value added chains will allow our companies, particularly the SMEs, to compete with high standards, increasing their parameters of quality and innovation.”

“Since we are responsible for developing and promoting productive chains, we must also create spaces, like the BTM matchmaking forum, where Costa Rican SMEs have the opportunity to vie for a position in global chains of value as providers for consolidated export companies. We see these trade sessions as a way for small companies to grow and indirectly flex their export muscles,” commented Pedro Beirute Prada, General Manager at PROCOMER.

Some of the beacon companies that have already confirmed their participation include: Vidriera Centroamericana S.A., Firestone Industrial Products of Costa Rica, Establishment Labs S.A., Panduit de Costa Rica Ltda., CooperVision Manufacturing Costa Rica, Banco Bac San José S.A, and others.

The business matchmaking forum is an integral part of the BTM framework, a large-scale business conference that, after 21 years, has become the most important activity of its kind in Central America, bringing together companies from the agricultural, food and specialized industries and international buyers from 40 countries.
