Sarstedt, Germany / San José, Costa Rica, April xx, 2025. With over 30 years of experience in high-precision laser material processing, the German company MeKo® announces the opening of its new subsidiary, MeKo MedTech S.A., in Costa Rica.
This expansion marks the company’s first site outside of Germany and highlights its commitment to innovation, sustainable growth, and proximity to key strategic markets in the Americas.
Kai Leymann, President of MeKo® MedTech S.A., expert in nitinol and medical device manufacturing, will lead the new operation. Regarding the expansion, he commented:

As the Minister stated, “The medical device sector, declared of public and national interest, accounts for more than 40% of the country’s exports and generates quality employment for over 58,000 people. MeKo’s® expansion validates the strength of Costa Rica’s ecosystem, which combines highly skilled talent with an institutional framework that fosters innovation, sustainability, and investment in healthcare”.
With a 1,400-square-meter facility, the company will contribute to local economic growth by creating high-quality jobs and fostering the transfer of specialized technical knowledge. MeKo® aligns with Costa Rica’s dedication to renewable energy, leveraging the country’s, on average, 97% clean energy supply to support environmentally responsible manufacturing.
