San José, February 6, 2020. Costa Rica presents European and world buyers with the diversity and freshness that characterizes its agricultural sector at the Fruitlogistica 2020 trade show. This year the event will bring together 3,200 exhibitors and 78,000 visitors.
From February 5 to 7, in Berlin, Germany, the Costa Rican agricultural sector will present buyers and visitors to the trade show a part of the essence of Costa Rica with products like pineapple, banana, chayote, roots and tubers.
“We are very proud to offer Costa Rican agricultural products to the world in a trade show that is a global reference for the sector and that is a consolidated part of the commercial promotion strategy for PROCOMER and national entrepreneurs. On this 20th occasion in which the country participates in Fruitlogistica, we not only have the opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of our country, but also exporters have the opportunity to stay up to date with new market trends,” said Álvaro Piedra, Director of Exports at PROCOMER.
Hellen Madrigal, of Fertinyc, added that this trade show is very important because it allows them to search for new clients while visiting with current ones.
Carlos Ramírez, from Exportagri, commented that Fruitlogistica allows them to interact with their clients, stay up to date on market trends, and expand their portfolio, which, in turn, helps them place their production. “This year we are launching new products – frozen cassava croquettes and cassava sticks – that have been well accepted, and we hope that next year they will be better positioned. This trade show is definitely very important for the growth and promotion of any company,” he concluded.
In 2019, the agricultural sector represented 24% of the total exports of Costa Rican goods and made shipments abroad for $2,728 million US dollars. Some products that presented growth the previous year include cassava + 11%, watermelon + 21%, mango + 52%, among others.
The participation in this trade show has resulted in the diversification of export destinations for the national agricultural sector. For example, Costa Rica´s previous participation resulted in mango exports to Germany, as well as root and tuber exports to Spain.
