Thanks to our regional leadership in sustainability, economic growth and an outstanding participation of the essential COSTA RICA Country Brand in global editions, Costa Rica will be the proud host of the 1st edition of City Nation Place Latin America and the Caribbean. This event’s primary objective is to explore how, through place branding strategies, economic growth and sustainable tourism can be promoted.
Thanks to this forum, approximately 80 professionals, associated to place branding teams, investment promotion agencies, economic development and trade councils, and city marketing teams, from 24 countries will be gathered in one place. The event will be held on September 2 and 3, at Texas Tech University.
“This country’s National Decarbonization Plan is an opportunity for the national economy, not only in environmental terms but also in generating savings from oil bills and other expenses associated to expenses due to illnesses caused by air pollution. This plan brings us closer to the type of cities we want, where all sectors win, especially the general population,” stated Claudia Dobles, First Lady of the Republic.
In addition to presenting the decarbonization plan led by the First Lady, the event includes a of talks on sustainability, place marketing, investment promotion, digital communication, and others.
Featured speakers include Rebecca Smith, Director of the New Zealand Country Brand; Leah Chandler, Marketing Director of Discover Puerto Rico; Jorge Sequeira, Director of the Costa Rican Coalition for Development Initiatives (CINDE); Patricia Hansen, Investment Commissioner for North America of Invest Chile and José Filipe Torres, CEO of Bloom Consulting.
In addition, Valverde highlighted the “clear opportunity that this high-level conference offers Latin American countries to share good practices in order to achieve cross-cutting results throughout the region.”According to Daniel Valverde, Director of the essential COSTA RICA Country Brand, the success stories and contacts that the event brings together will allow the region’s country brands to rethink their strategies in order to generate greater impact on the public and private sector. “Hosting the first edition of City Nation Place Latin America and the Caribbean, in Costa Rica, renders essential COSTA RICA a brand leader in place branding, thanks to the solidity that has resulted from the joint cooperation of the public and private sector in facing our positioning in international markets,” he added.
Jorge Sequeira Picado, General Director of CINDE, went on to add, “our Country Brand has become one of the most successful and fastest growing brands in Latin America. We are very excited to share, with such a wide audience, the path we have followed to achieve this success, including the creation of strong value alliances for its empowerment with the private sector. This is the first time that City Nation Place will be held in Latin America, and we are proud to be the venue chosen to host such an important event. “
Rebecca Smith, Director of the New Zealand Country Brand, noted that her brand and the essential COSTA RICA brand share many similarities, including the orientation towards sustainability and environmental care. For Smith, these types of forums allow us to share different perspectives and learn from the strategies implemented by some of the most successful Country Brands in the world.
The City Nation Place organization selected Costa Rica as the host country for this event, because, in previous editions, the Country Brand was exhibited at the City Nation Place Global, based in London, a space that celebrates the best initiatives of place branding and marketing.
