San Jose, February 16, 2021. In order to promote Costa Rica as a creator of creative content for the international entertainment and animation industry, as well as to establish business and strategic alliances, seven Costa Rican studios will participate in the KidScreen Summit 2021 tradeshow, which, this year, will be held virtually over a full month, from February 8 to March 5.
KidScreen brings together over 1,500 delegations from 50 countries, more than 300 buyers of content designed for children and over 700 producers and distributors. The national firms participating this year include LasalaPost, Tropics Creative, Relish Costa Rica, Marte Estudio, Animagine, Mekanismo and 5Paperfish, the last two participating for the first time.
In addition to promoting the country, participation in KidScreen aims to promote services offered by the studios (outsourcing), as well as to test the productions or series that are in the concept or project stage through exhibitions before international consultants or experts in the industry.
“The digital animation sector is taking a big leap from offering animation services to creating content and placing its television series in other countries. We currently have television series for children that have been successful and are broadcast in destinations such as Russia, Japan, Canada, Latin America, and others. For this reason, we continue to participate in this event, to continue with the positioning strategy and follow the process of production and sale of intellectual properties,” said Álvaro Piedra, Director of Exports at PROCOMER.
Herby Delgado, from Tropics Creative, went on to say that participating in the KidScreen Summit offers his animation studio the possibility to present – potential buyers- its Jungle House intellectual property. “This will help us promote Jungle House. We will continue to hold meetings over the next few days to reach a successful conclusion and develop the first season,” he commented.
During this month of the tradeshow activities such as
pre-established business meetings between national companies and studios,
distributors, broadcasters and international consultants will be carried out.
The meetings will take place at Costa Rica’s virtual stand, a space designed to display content and have meetings at the same time. In addition, specialized virtual talks will be carried out with experts on topics such as financing & co-production, licensing, emerging trends, platforms and audiences, among others.
Some productions promoted at the KidScreen Summit include Mavie and Zavie, a co-production with Croatia for children ages 3 to 5, where two investigating brothers solve mysteries for their friends in Pastel City. Also, Fly by Night, a parody of Noir where insects take the place of humans in stories of intrigue, crime and adult humor.
