San Jose, June 28, 2024. This Thursday, June 27, the Foreign Trade Promoter of Costa Rica (PROCOMER) participated in the Investment Promotion Agencies of Latin America Summit, held in Mexico City, which included the participation of Mexican Foreign Minister, Alicia Bárcena.
Besides Costa Rica, investment attraction agencies from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela also participated.
During the first panel discussion, Latin American investment agencies analyzed the factors leading to the relocation of supply chains, strategies to attract and retain talent in key sectors, and the socioeconomic impact in countries where nearshoring and friendshoring have been successful.
“The discussions and debates between Latin American investment promotion agencies are aimed at keeping the conversation open around best practices. The Inter-American Development Bank also joined this first meeting and proposed new topics to be addressed in future conversations,” stated Mónica Umaña, Investment Manager of PROCOMER.
Other discussion topics included the use of artificial intelligence to generate new investment opportunities, the tax incentive packages offered by each country and the relevance of Post-Establishment teams.
The second panel discussion covered topics related to the challenges and opportunities for investment in the Latin American region and how sustainability has a great significance for companies.
Rodrigo Morales, General Director of Global Economic Impulse of Mexico, and Jaime Granados, Head of the Trade and Investment Division of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) also attended the summit.
